Sunglasses Made Out of Sea Trash

Fishermen in Chile have to replace their plastic nets nearly every week. This causes a pretty big problem: With nothing in place to help them get rid of the used nets properly, the nets usually end up abandoned in the harbors, tossed into ocean or simply set on fire.

But where there is old plastic, there’s a way to turn it into something new — or so goes the thinking behind LA-based company Bureo. They are the first in the world to make sunglasses made from 100-percent traceable and recycled nylon nets.
